Payment Policy

GoTradie is built on transparency and trust. This page explains exactly how payments work, how your money is protected, and what happens if you're ever unhappy with the work.

Our Pricing Model

GoTradie uses trade-specific pricing — from £22/hr for general labour to £120/hr for specialist engineers. All prices include VAT. For hourly jobs, each trade has a fixed call-out charge (e.g. £80 for a plumber) that covers the first 30 minutes of labour; the trade's hourly rate then applies in 30-minute increments. Larger jobs are quoted: the tradesperson sends an itemised fixed quotation which you approve before work begins. Tradespeople agree to honour the advertised rates for jobs booked through GoTradie.

Lead fee (paid by tradesperson on acceptance)£19 flat
Client pays through GoTradie (app-protected)Work total + 10%
GoTradie keeps (application fee)10% of client payment
Tradesperson receives (direct to their Stripe account)90% of client payment

Two ways to pay. At booking, the client chooses: Pay through GoTradie (a 10% premium is added to the final bill and the job is covered by our 3-month Money-Back Guarantee) or Pay the tradesperson directly (no 10% premium, but no GoTradie protection). The £19 lead fee is always paid by the tradesperson on acceptance.

The 10% application fee funds tradesperson vetting, insurance monitoring, dispute mediation, and the Money-Back Guarantee.

Payment Protection

When you choose to pay through GoTradie, your payment is protected at every stage — and covered by our 3-month Money-Back Guarantee. If you choose to pay the tradesperson directly, this protection does not apply.

  1. 1

For quotation jobs, the tradesperson sends an itemised fixed quote through the app — you approve it before any work begins.

  2. 2

The tradesperson completes the work and submits a payment request through the app, itemising labour, materials, and any expenses.

  3. 3

You review the full breakdown inside the app before paying. A 10% premium is added to the work total to fund your protection.

  4. 4

When you pay, the funds are charged and 90% is transferred straight to the tradesperson’s Stripe account. GoTradie keeps 10% as the application fee.

  5. 5

You’re covered for 3 months from the date the job is approved — if the work isn’t completed to a satisfactory standard, we’ll refund you.

Dispute Resolution

If you are unhappy with the quality of work, GoTradie acts as a neutral mediator between you and the tradesperson. Payment is held and will not be released to the tradesperson until the dispute is fully resolved.

All job discussions must take place within the GoTradie app. Arranging or agreeing work outside the app removes your protection under this policy.

How to raise a dispute

  1. 1

Decline the payment request in the Job Chat — this flags the job as disputed.

  2. 2

Use the Job Chat to describe the issue clearly to the tradesperson.

  3. 3

Upload photos of the unsatisfactory work directly in the Job Chat so both parties and GoTradie have a clear record.

  4. 4

GoTradie will review the evidence from both sides and contact both parties.

Photo Evidence

Photos must be submitted through the private Job Chat between you and the tradesperson. This keeps all evidence in one place and allows GoTradie to review it fairly. We recommend photographing the area before and after work wherever possible.

How we resolve disputes

GoTradie will review all evidence — messages, photos, and job details — and make a fair decision. We will always act in good faith and consider both sides. GoTradie does not assign a new tradesperson to redo the work free of charge — our remedy is a refund to you where appropriate. Where the tradesperson is at fault, we will first give them the opportunity to return and repair the issue.

Repair first. Before any refund or claim, GoTradie will always give the original tradesperson a fair chance to go back and put right anything that isn't up to standard.

Full or partial refund

If the work is clearly not up to a reasonable standard and the tradesperson is at fault, GoTradie will refund you in full or in part — we will not arrange a replacement tradesperson for free.

Public liability insurance claim

Where the tradesperson is at fault and the cost of the fault exceeds a reasonable remedy, GoTradie will direct the claim through the tradesperson’s public liability insurance to cover the damages.

Tradesperson directly liable

If the tradesperson’s insurance company will not cover the damages, the tradesperson remains directly and personally liable for the cost of putting the work right.

Payment released to tradesperson

If our review finds the work was completed to a satisfactory standard and the dispute is unfounded, payment will be released to the tradesperson.

Tradesperson Liability

Every tradesperson on GoTradie signs the Tradesperson Agreement before they can accept jobs. This agreement makes clear that the tradesperson — not GoTradie — is responsible for the quality of their work and any refunds arising from faulty or incomplete work.

What happens if a refund can't be recovered? App-protected payments are processed as Stripe Direct Charges on the tradesperson's own Stripe account. If we issue a refund and the tradesperson's Stripe balance is in deficit (because they've already been paid out), we will first try to recover it from their future GoTradie payouts. Where there is no future revenue to draw on, the tradesperson remains personally liable and GoTradie may pursue recovery — including through legal proceedings — to recover the debt.

The £19 lead fee paid by the tradesperson on acceptance is non-refundable and is not credited towards any refund. The repair-first policy always applies: the original tradesperson gets the chance to put things right before any refund is issued.

GoTradie's goal is always a fair outcome. We do not take sides, but we will act decisively if we find evidence of dishonesty from either party. Tradespeople found to be acting in bad faith may be permanently removed from the platform.
